Water and acne – is there a connection? Acne is a condition that can really take its toll on the sufferer, causing discomfort, pain, low self esteem, and embarrassment.

Most people associate acne with teenagers, and although this is a condition more common amongst younger people the fact is that many people suffer from this condition throughout adulthood as well. There are a number of reasons why you may suffer from acne, and one of these is due to the build up of toxic waste within the body.

Drinking water can help to keep you in good health, and will help to flush toxins from your body, which will in turn help both internal organs and external ones such as the skin. You don’t have to drink plain tap water if you are worried about chemicals, something as simple as home water filters will enable you to enjoy fresh, clean water whenever you want it. You will be amazed at the benefits that come with drinking adequate water levels. Those that suffer from acne can help to keep this condition at bay simply by drinking water. Even if you don’t suffer from acne, you may find that your skin is dehydrated and dry – drinking water can really help by hydrating your body inside and out.

Other ways you can help your skin

Besides staying hydrated, there are other ways in which you can help to keep your skin clearer and reduce the risk of breakouts. Contaminants and pollutants in the air can really exacerbate allergies and skin conditions, and one way of reducing this risk is through the use of electronic air cleaners, which can help to rid the air of pollutants, enabling your skin to be exposed to cleaner, fresher air, which eliminates much of the irritation.

Sufferers of acne should take care to avoid harsh skin cleaning products too, and instead use gentle, fragrance free products, which can often be recommended by a doctor or pharmacist. When washing your skin, dab the skin dry rather than rubbing, and try and avoid touching the pimples and skin with unwashed hands as this can spread infection as well as bacteria.

With regard to the subject of water and acne, it is interesting to note that many people have reported having excellent success with ‘lemon water’.

Acne.org message boards suggest a half a teaspoon of lemon juice per glass of water. It supposedly flushes toxins from your body that contribute to causing acne. The result is less redness and a clearer complexion.
